Millions of messages of hope for ISIS-occupied Mosul

The Institute for War and Peace Reporting has co-ordinated an extraordinary airdrop on Mosul, the Iraqi city currently occupied by ISIS. 

Over four million hand-written messages of solidarity from across Iraq were dropped on the city from an Iraqi air force plane in December 2016 as part of the #LettersToMosul campaign.

According to IWPR, the people of Mosul have been subject to an information blackout for almost a year now, with threats of execution for people attempting to watch television or access the web. Iraqi and Kurdish forces are currently engaged in a joint offensive to liberate the city.
