The 53-minute documentary Cracked Actor follows the late David Bowie in the United States during the super-ambitious Diamond Dogs tour in 1974. Bowie was past the Ziggy Stardust/Aladdin Sane persona and moving into his white soul phase with Young Americans (a hint of what was coming can be seen in the opening as he sings along to Aretha Franklin on the radio). He was also on a lot of drugs. And he never looked cooler.

The film was directed for the BBC by a young Alan Yentob, who has said he believes it is the one thing he will be remembered for. It was broadcast in January 1975.
